Upper secondary and higher education
After completing their compulsory education, young people in Denmark can choose between different educational pathways: Upper secondary education or vocational education. Upper secondary education prepares students for higher education, while vocational education prepares students for a career within a specific trade, profession or industry.
Upper secondary education at Campus Varde
An upper secondary academic programme prepares you for higher education after year nine. This can include academy profession programmes and courses at university colleges or universities. These programmes vary in focus, such as languages, social sciences, technology, natural sciences, and economics, and consist of both compulsory and elective subjects.
In Varde Municipality, all upper secondary programmes are located at Campus Varde. Campus Varde offers an innovative and inspiring learning environment for young people and adults. Around 1,200 students and 150 staff are spread across a wide range of programmes and regularly meet for social and educational activities. At Campus Varde you will find:
Get from A to B using public transport
Bus and train
If you are heading to school or going shopping in one of the nearby larger towns, you can take the train or bus.
Flextrafik
With Flextrafik, you can travel from door to door, and there are no fixed stops or timetables. Call two hours in advance, and you’re ready to go.
NaboGo
The Nabogo app makes carpooling easy by connecting you with others who are going the same way – both for everyday trips and leisure activities.
Vocational programmes
Vocational programmes combine practical and theoretical knowledge. After finishing a vocational education programme, you will be qualified as a skilled worker within the profession you choose. There are approximately 100 different vocational education courses in Denmark. For example, you can train to become a gardener, a sales assistant, a carpenter or a social and healthcare assistant.
Many vocational education programmes can also be taken as an EUX programme. This means that you take subjects at upper secondary level and graduate both as a skilled worker and with a general upper secondary certificate.
Located 20 kilometres from Varde, the educational institution Rybners in Esbjerg offers a range of vocational education programmes
State Educational Support (SU)
In Denmark, students receive financial support from the state (SU) once they have turned 18 and are enrolled in an upper secondary or higher education programme. Foreign nationals may, in certain cases, also be eligible for SU if they meet specific conditions.
Higher education
Esbjerg is the centre for higher education in the region. Here, you can pursue an education within numerous different fields, ranging from economics and engineering to nursing, medicine and teaching
